How Do You Make A Venetian Blind

December 5th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Paid Post

SelectBlinds.com provides window coverings, and are featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, where presumably an expert team rips up your interior decorating and leaves something better in its place.

Among the offerings seen on the show are Mini Blinds which cover smaller windows, such as kitchen windows and sitting room windows. The mini blinds are made of aluminium, but are still affordable. Plus they come in 29 colours, so you can always find a set to match your decorating scheme.

Besides mini blinds, wood blinds and vertical blinds are also available. And if cleaning between the slats of those window coverings aren’t your thing, you can always opt for window shades, which have the fabric quality of curtains but won’t billow around as much. Not to mention, you won’t need to get them specially tailored like you do with curtains.

Military Discipline for Teens

December 4th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Paid Post

*Paid Post*

Military Schools are, despite their name, not schools where Army personnel and other members of the armed forces send their kids. Rather, military schools are just schools that practice military discipline - wake-up time is non-negotiable, tasks should be completed, and students should be on their best behaviour at all times.

While some may find this environment stifling, military school can be a conducive environment for kids who need structure and discipline in their lives. Unlike the old days when military school was seen as a dumping ground for juvenile delinquents, such schools are now an option for both parents and children who find the public school system unable to fulfill their needs.

The website offers a national directory, as well as a toll-free number to call for information. More importantly, there is a section on what the schools can and cannot do for your troubled child. Since military schools do not offer therapy, kids with ADHD or emotional problems may benefit from going to a specialty school instead. It’s a very informative and helpful addition that shows the site’s commitment to assisting parents, instead of just pushing their services.

Boarding Schools Directory

December 4th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Paid Post

*Paid Post*

I was just telling my friend the other day of my radical idea that teenagers should be packed off to boarding school from ages 13-18, to spare their parents the stress of raising them and to give the kids what they crave so much - time with their peers, away from their parents.

Obviously it’s not a totally feasible idea, but if you’re really searching for Teen Boarding Schools, a national directory would be a good place to start. You can search for traditional boarding schools that serve to prepare your teen for college, or find a specialty school that’s tailored to helping troubled kids. There are also toll-free numbers to call, to make your search a more pleasant experience.

Die, Bugs, Die!

The issue of termite control isn’t really something most of us worry about, until they actually appear. They never attacked my house, but they did settle on a shed in my high school. It happened to be our Girl Guides’ Den, and now it was a termite den.

That shed was termite heaven, because it was constrcted out of wood. The school finally tore it down some years after I left, but not before the termite infestation had cost quite a bit of money in fumigation fees, as well as grossing out all of us.

If you suspect that termites have invaded your home, want to get rid of termites, or just want to know which product is the best at getting rid of them, then this is the site you should look up. It’s impartial and not affiliated to any companies, but contains information on various products as well as an FAQ section.

Great Guy Gifts

November 1st, 2007 by lynnylchan under Paid Post

I love guys, but I hate buying gifts for them. I never know what to get them, whether they’re boyfriends, classmates or relatives. I usually take the easy way out and ask them outright what they want, because they might not totally appreciate getting a plush toy, Britney Spears CD or a t-shirt that looks like something I picked up on a whim at Chatuchak Market in Bangkok.

It makes life easier if you know the guy’s interests, but then how do you get a suitable gift? You can’t buy the geek a new computer or gadget every year, plus you might get the specs wrong. You certainly can’t buy the motoring enthusiast a new car every birthday or Christmas! However, Car Guy Garage may have something that will make him just as happy.

Their range of gifts for guys include car-themed practical gifts such as salt-and-pepper shakers, a wine cooler reminiscent of a race-car wheel, and even a brake disc mirror. I’m sure my F1-loving uncles and cousins would love some of this stuff in their homes.

Bargain Shopping For Holidays

October 22nd, 2007 by lynnylchan under Paid Post

*Paid Post*

The huge new trend now, with regards to going on vacation, is to build your own package of flights, hotels and tours, instead of sticking to a fixed tour. The comparison shopping for bargain holidays can be quite daunting, which is where large sites like Holiday Hypermarket come in.

The site collates information from numerous travel agencies, so the range of destinations, hotels and flights is extremely wide. As they are based in the UK, there’s an emphasis on the Mediterranean region, as well as exotic places like Egypt and Lapland. However, tours to Asia can be found under the ‘Far East’ category.

If you choose to mix and match your own package deal, arrangements are made with the airlines and hotels separately. This makes it possible to scrimp on the air ticket and splurge on a 5-star resort hotel instead, if that’s what you like.

Holidays built around specific activities can also be booked through the site. If you fancy hitting the slopes, you can book ski holidays in places as diverse as Norway and Andorra. Another popular holiday activity is to go on a cruise. Holiday Hypermarket offers cruises from major cruise lines such as P&O Cruises and Cunard, for a wonderful holiday experience.

If you’re given to the occasional urge to just run away from the world for a while, the site also offers last-minute holidays. Their advantage in this sector lies in the fact that they are an all-in-one solution with offers from many agencies, so the comparison shopping is easier and the chances of booking a desired holiday are greater. The last thing you need in the process of booking a stress-busting holiday is more stress.

Learning Is More Than Studying

Many parents fork out hundreds of dollars a month for their children’s tutoring fees, often with varying results. Tuition classes can reinforce what’s being taught in school, but often it’s almost an exact replica of the classroom, with the same distractions from classmates and lack of individualized attention.

Club Z! Tutoring only offers one-on-one tutoring, which is backed up by research as being a very effective teaching method. With a Private Tutor, the student has more flexibility in deciding the time and place of tutoring. For parents, this means no more ferrying the child to tuition centers or rushing to be on schedule.

Club Z! tutors are teachers or degree holders with teaching experience. Besides the usual academic subjects such as language, arithmetic and science, there are also tutors for music and speech therapy, as well as those who specialize in home schooling or learning disabilities. Tutors also impart practical study skills and organizational skills, such as pre-exam coping tips.

In tandem with their philosophy of learning for life, Club Z! also has adult learning services for foreign languages as well as standardized test preparation, for candidates preparing to take assessments such as the SAT and GRE. With a wide range of subjects taught by dedicated tutors, students can be assured not only of improved academic performance, but more importantly, of actual learning, and not just fact-cramming.

Self-Publishing Your Book

September 24th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Paid Post

*Paid Post*

A lot of people who write feel that they have at least one good book inside them. Unfortunately, getting this good book out into print is a path fraught with difficulties. There’s the process of shopping out your manuscript, getting rejected, and if you’re lucky enough to get a contract, there are royalty issues to grapple with.

By choosing to Self Publish instead of going to the big players, you can cut out the literary agent (whose services may be expensive while results are not guaranteed), set your own royalty rates, and customize every aspect of your book to your liking, down to the cover design.

AuthorHouse is the world’s largest self-publishing company, and their emphasis is on simplifying the publishing process while empowering authors to get their voices heard. Authors who sign up with AuthorHouse are assigned a personal advocate to be their liaison and guide them through the publishing process. And when the book is finally ready for the market, AuthorHouse will distribute it through retail stores as well as online through Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, in order to reach a wider market. Marketing and advertising services are also offered at a discounted rate.

AuthorHouse will also send you a free publishing guide upon completion of a request form on their website, so you can embark on what they call “the great adventure of publishing”.

Cash For College

September 18th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Paid Post

*Paid Post*

Paying for college tuition is probably the single biggest expenditure a parent will have to face when it comes to raising children. Even with a reasonably comfortable income, a family with two working parents will have to be much more frugal in order to put their kids through college. No wonder, then, that every year there’s a huge scramble for scholarships after exam results are announced.

To ease the search for college funding, Scholarships.com has provided a student guide to financial scholarships for those who qualify. The student guide is free, and it’s the top resource for those searching for financial aid. The website also includes a college search feature that lists U.S. colleges by the criteria you set, and then helps you find available scholarships.

Just so you can get an accurate picture of how much money you need for college, the annual fees for in-state and out-of-state students are also included in the college listings. The search engine is also able to filter results based on your personal profile, so that only relevant scholarships will be shown. When you’re 18 and making a major life decision, the last thing you need is to be overwhelmed by unnecessary information. The site is also constantly updated to provide the most accurate information, so it should be the go-to site if you’re planning ahead for college.
