So long, and thanks for nothing.

August 14th, 2008 by lynnylchan under Blog Life and Comments

I’ve removed the nuffnang sidebar ad from my sidebar.

Reason #1: Even though I’m a Glitterati, I’ve not seen any increase in my earnings. They’ve stagnated at $16.17 for the past few months. I blame this lack of income on the new system that relies on clicks instead of page views. Now, I won’t tell people to go click on my ads, and I’m certainly not going to be stupid and click on them myself. So the ad has to be interesting enough to warrant clicking, which brings me to my 2nd point.

Reason #2: I get uninteresting ads. I don’t want to advertise “Uniquely Singapore” or “Safra” on my blog, but unlike Google’s contextual ads, I don’t have a choice. At least with Google Ads, I’m to blame for the HIV-testing ads, because of the posts about my J-drama. And no one wants to click on these crappy ads, so they’re generating zero income FOR ME while the advertiser gets free eyeballs.

Reason #3: Advertising on my blog not only costs you money, the money has to come straight TO ME. That was why I stuck with PayPerPost for so long, because I saw the money in a month. With nuffnang, I display ads but I don’t see the money. What’s the point?

Reason #4: I started working.

And now for possible rebuttals:

Rebuttal #1: It’s my own fault for putting sidebar ads. Yes, I know other nuffnangers get the cute new Wall-E ad because they’re using the rectangular format. Well, Wordpress doesn’t allow me to do that. And between a blogging platform that I really like, and advertising that doesn’t even earn me that much, which do you think I’m going to choose?

Rebuttal #2: I have very low pageviews, so I get ads that no one’s interested in. Well then, shouldn’t I remove them in order to keep the 20 or so pageviews I get every day? I’d rather be read than make a few cents.

Rebuttal #3: My blog makes money while I sleep, whereas I only earn money as long as I work. True enough, except that my blog doesn’t ACTUALLY make all that much anyway.

So, I hope you enjoy the new and nuffnang-free Bohemia Bunny. The Google Ads stay for the time being, though, just because I like seeing what funny ads they come up with. Oh yeah… now that I’ve removed the nuffnang, maybe I’ll put Advertlets back on. Just because.

Disclaimer: I acknowledge that it’s my own damn fault I’m not making money from my nuffnang ads. So since it’s my own damn fault, shouldn’t I be the one taking steps to rectify it? So I am.

Edit: I added the Advertlets sidebar for all of one minute. It’s very cute and all, but having my face compete for attention with the gorgeousness of Felicia Chin just doesn’t seem like a great idea. So I guess the money I have sitting with Advertlets will just continue sitting there. Oh, and I have an incoming ad from Nuffnang next week (they sent me the email some time back and I forgot about it). Let it not be said that I don’t stand by my opinion. I’ll restore the sidebar ad in time to display the ad, just to see if it actually makes any money. Stay tuned!

Alpha Tester!

April 15th, 2008 by lynnylchan under Blog Life

If you get a blog welcome ad, this is why. I have been invited to alpha test socialspark, a new initiative by IZEA. They’re the guys behind PayPerPost as well. Register at SocialSpark.com to be informed of releases.

So far, its slick and sleek interface makes me happy, and the innovative methods of sponsorship are worth checking out. I love being avant-garde.

Now you can stop mambo-ing, even though I know that you know all the words (and gestures) to “Never Gonna Give You Up”. If you couldn’t see it - well, never mind. It’s always Wednesday soon!

The ‘Save Kipley’ fund.

November 22nd, 2007 by lynnylchan under Blog Life and Pets

Kipley is a small white-and-brown mouse, nearly a year old.

She’s not quite as small any more, because she has a massive tumour growing on her left shoulder. Obviously, surgery is on the cards.

The money I have earned from doing paid posts so far is going towards her operation. I’m just waiting for the funds to clear and *plop* into my bank account.

So thank you for putting up with the paid posts. If you want to help some more, I have other revenue streams on the sidebar *ahem*.

Cute picture after the jump, squeamish people take note - potentially frightening image.

The Rush Is On

September 18th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Blog Life

I’ve installed yet another widget on my sidebar. This one doesn’t make me any money, but it’s supposed to drive traffic to my blog. The widget is from BlogRush, and it provides links to related blogposts that you might want to read after you’re done with mine. I like to think of it as a Web2.0 incarnation of trade-a-link.

If you’re a blogger and you’re interested in checking out the service, the link is here. Alternatively, you can click on the bottom of the widget where it says “Add Your Blog Posts”. The service is free, too.

The blogposts that will be featured on the widget are chosen because they’re related to my blog category, so they won’t be random ads or totally irrelevant entries on, say, advancements in materials engineering. Since I entered my blog category as “personal diary”, the widget will probably be delivering similar, ‘this-is-my-life’-themed blogposts. That should suit the readers with voyeuristic tendencies (myself included).

Just don’t forget to come back here and finish reading me after you visit the other blogs, okay?

Redecorating

September 9th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Blog Life

After literally hours of sifting through code that I don’t understand, wrestling with an image-manipulation software that I don’t know how to use and generally getting down and dirty to deliver something beautiful, my new blog design is finalised.

Advertlets approved my previous post and credited my account (yay!) but they did have one request: that I move up the banner ad. On the old theme, doing that would mean displacing my profile picture, which I am loath to do due to reasons of blog branding and identity. The answer, therefore is dual sidebars. Win-win situation! By the way, the Advertlets banner is interactive, and there’s a poll embedded in it, so please check it out.

I loved the clean white-and-pinkness of the old theme, so I went back to the same developer for this new one. It’s called Cherry Berry 2, and the site is here. The new theme is built for WordPress 2.0+, so it’s widget-ready. Those things are fun to play with, although I mainly use them to insert all my JavaScript buttons and badges on the sidebars.

I didn’t really do a lot of modification - just cosmetic stuff like colours, the font on the header picture and letter-spacing. I am slightly annoyed that the main content column seems to be even narrower than my old one, which means a lot of pictures won’t display properly. I’m not nearly as anal as some of my readers regarding this, so I’ll just leave it as an amateurish display.

In the meantime, I found a cute Firefox banner for the sidebar. Awww.

Selling Out!

January 20th, 2007 by lynnylchan under Blog Life

I’ve decided to start blogging for money. From now on, if you see a tag “Paid Post” at the beginning of the post, you can skip it. I signed up with Pay Per Post which pays me money for each post about given topics.

The range of topics is really diverse, but you won’t be seeing silly things like reviews of kitchen cabinet makers or buzz-building posts about real estate agents, because I know nuts about such topics. I’ll be sticking to stuff about which I can write intelligently.

No worries, there’s a limit on how many posts I can write a day, and I have to alternate between paid posts and my own blog posts, so this isn’t going to turn into some nonsensical commercial blog. If anything, this means I’ll be blogging more often, in order to make quota.

Questions about my blogging integrity and my sudden decision to sell out will be politely ignored. Questions about how to join in on this entrepreneurial endeavour can be directed through comments.

Sexy V-girls!

November 1st, 2005 by lynnylchan under Blog Life and Humour

I’ve decided to start up my own little Internet business. My greatest talent has always been catering to desires of the flesh, so I’ve become a mamasan. Yes, I’ve gone into the porn business!

Click here to see what I mean.

I was going to have pictures of different girls, but due to copyright issues, I had to pull those pics and use my own. Never mind. Every mamasan starts from the bottom, no?

And in case I’ve overestimated the intelligence of the average blog reader, the standard disclaimer:
It’s not freaking real. And yes, I do think that V-signs are the bane of photographs everywhere.

In support of the Bengs.

August 26th, 2005 by lynnylchan under Blog Life and Humour

Kenny Sia says that the reason Ah Bengs don’t (or rather, donch) go around reading blogs, is because hor, not enough blogs are written in their language. So he went and created an English-Benglish translator, and I just had to Bengify my blog. It’s not as hilarious as the Gizoogled version, but the translator is in its early stages yet. So ah, this is for the Bengs who donch understand limpeh’s cheem cheem Engrich.

*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*

Hmmm. It would seem that there was a terrijiber, horrijiber, incorrigible mistake on the part of whoeber did the money counting for NUS Flag Day. Because someone has lost their lampa trophy, and someone else has reclaimed it one.

Business School is the rightful winner of the Best Flag Day Colrection Shield, and not Science Faculty as was announced. Hum hum. Poor Science students. But wa si sure those pukima donch care any more, Limpeh mean come on, it was 3 weeks ago. Not worth fretting over, since those pukima had the early glory and Bizad gets the shield budden hor, didn’t get to celebrate.

Here’s a link to the official lipok. Scroll down for a pictorial acknowledgement of Eusoff Hall as champions. *snobbish sniff*

In other news, Limpeh just received an emiaw from the Hall Opik, informing us of the results of last week’s Food Survey. Indeed, a majority of Eusoffians agree that the food is “not adequate”, “not tasty” and “not of damn power quality”. So it’s damn power to know that our kao peh kao buts have been taken care of. On the other hand, the not-so-flattering leebiu of the caterer probably explains why dinner yesterlay was so liddat bad. One chicken nugget and those pukima passed it off as one serving of meat. The seniors were aghast. “In 5 years, I oredi neber had a lagi lauya dinner!” declared one lah. CCB. Those siao lang made up for it tolay with a generous serving of chicken, or maybe it’s just because a boy packed dinner for limpeh and the server gave the lan jiao face a bigger helping.

In other news, Limpeh attended Jitpunkia class tolay with a very the energetic tutor. It was like being in one of those crazy gameshows. Fun.
